How to do it
- Sign with a black or blue pen on plain white paper. Photograph it flat, in daylight, from straight above.
- Open the Signature tab (already selected on this page) with the template India OCI: signature.
- Add the photo and drag the crop box tightly around the signature, leaving a thin margin.
- Leave “Even out lighting” on. If the strokes look thin, raise the ink threshold. If you see speckles, lower it.
- Download the file and upload it on the OCI portal.
Common mistakes
- Cropping too wide, so the signature ends up tiny. Crop close.
- Shadows or a grey background. Keep “Even out lighting” on and photograph in even light.
- A signature that does not match the one in your passport.
- Using pencil or a pale pen. The strokes drop out when converted to black and white.
Frequently asked questions
Why must the signature be 1:3?
The portal checks the shape of the image. This tool locks the crop box to 1:3 so the result always fits.
Can I use a scan instead of a photo?
Yes. A scan of a signature on white paper works even better than a photo. Add it the same way.
Can I make it bigger than 600 × 200?
Yes, up to 900 × 300 px. Choose the Custom template and set the width and height, keeping the 3 to 1 shape.
Is my signature uploaded?
No. It is processed in your browser only.
